This is the start! This is a blog for documenting my experiences, thoughts, reflections, and updates from working with People’s Food Coop in Portland, Oregon.
I’m not sure how often and when I’ll post here, but I’ve writing and archiving my experiences to be immensely useful in the past, and I always love enjoying reading others' experiences (like Simon Willison).
What I’ll Be Doing
My relationship to Peoples is as a customer, member-owner and hands-on-owner (HOO) (I volunteer once a week).
As a HOO, I’m currently working on the grounds once a week for a few hours, mostly sweeping, cleaning and doing other kinds of maintenance work.
What I’m Excited About
- I’m excited about food coops and the role that they play in communities, especially in contrast to the alternatives of big and getting bigger grocery stores.
- I’m excited to document this journey and see where it goes.
- I’m excited to get more involved in a Portland community
- I’m excited to contribute where I can and learn new things
Next Steps
Up next is writing more about what I know so far about People’s, figuring out what I don’t know and learning it.
